How does Elcom help faith-based organisations?

Elcom is an Australian-built digital platform trusted by Catholic dioceses, Anglican welfare organisations, faith-based education systems, Catholic health networks, and faith communities of all traditions to connect staff, volunteers, and communities from a single secure system. With unlimited user licensing, Australian data hosting, and a dedicated local support team, Elcom removes the cost and complexity that holds most religious organisations back from going digital.

Faith-based organisations in Australia operate across a wide range of structures, from diocesan education offices managing 100+ schools, to Anglican welfare providers with staff across 20 locations, to Catholic hospital networks, to small synods trying to get 40 paid staff and 200 volunteers onto a shared platform. The digital challenges are real, but they look different in each setting. Elcom works across all of them.

Why do religious organisations struggle with digital communication?

Most religious organisations run on dispersed, mixed workforces. Paid staff, volunteers, clergy, contractors, and casual workers all need access to information, but most digital platforms charge per user or require a corporate email. That makes inclusive digital communication expensive and complicated.

Religious organisations are the second most common destination for volunteers in Australia. 23.3% of all formal volunteers donate their time to faith-based organisations. (Volunteering Australia / ABS General Social Survey)

That volume of volunteers means most organisations are managing people who don't have a work email, aren't in the office five days a week, and still need schedules, training, and updates. A platform that excludes them isn't solving the problem.

Multi-site management is the other persistent challenge. A diocese managing dozens of parishes or a welfare organisation running multiple care sites can't have each location managing its own website separately. Consistency breaks down, branding drifts, and IT overhead compounds.

From a care and compliance perspective, to have up to date information and communication housed in a central hub that our dispersed and remote workforce can access and is customised to their roles, is priceless to our organisation. We’re really happy to have partnered with the Elcom team.

The Elcom team certainly met my expectations - they’re approachable, flexible and easy to work with. The staff are experts in their area and worked closely with me to get it right when we requested a change. Why do faith-based organisations choose Elcom over other platforms?

The most common reasons come down to four things: cost predictability, Australian data hosting, local support, and the ability to include every member of the workforce.

Area Without Elcom With Elcom
Communication Disconnected emails and updates across teams and communities Centralised communication through websites, intranets and mobile access
Access Volunteers and community members excluded by restrictive systems Unlimited access for staff, volunteers and communities (no extra cost)
Website Management Separate parish, ministry or school websites managed independently Multi-site management from one secure platform
Consistency Inconsistent branding and messaging across sites Central governance with flexible local publishing
Support Reliance on fragmented vendors and limited support Dedicated Australian support and ongoing partnership
Data Security Risk of overseas hosting issues and inconsistent governance Secure Australian hosting and enterprise-grade controls

International platforms charge per user. For a welfare organisation with 600 staff and 400 volunteers, that pricing model is a barrier to inclusion. Elcom's flat licensing removes it.

Australian data hosting matters in this sector. Religious organisations hold sensitive information about community members, staff, and beneficiaries. Data hosted within Australian borders under the Privacy Act 1988 removes a risk that offshore platforms carry by default.

Which types of religious organisations does Elcom work with?

Catholic education systems

Diocesan education offices manage dozens or hundreds of schools from a central office. They need multi-site governance, structured content publishing, and identity management integration. Brisbane Catholic Education uses Elcom to connect 140+ schools, staff, and the central office from a single platform. Catholic Education Tasmania's Marketing and Communications Manager noted the project was delivered on schedule and the platform delivered value from day one.

Faith-based welfare services

Organisations like Anglicare, CatholicCare, and UnitingCare run large distributed workforces with high numbers of casual and part-time staff. They need every worker connected without paying per-user fees. Anglican Care uses Elcom to give dispersed staff across NSW and the ACT access to current, role-specific information in a central hub.

Anglican, Uniting, and Baptist synods and bodies

Synods and peak faith bodies typically need a reliable website and a central place for staff communications and policies. Elcom works as both a website CMS and a staff intranet, and can be configured and launched without a large internal IT team.

Catholic dioceses and worship governance bodies

Diocesan offices, Bishops Conferences, and parish networks need a platform that handles multi-site operations and structured access controls. The Archdiocese of Sydney and the Catholic Diocese of Broken Bay both use Elcom to manage internal communications and digital operations across distributed teams.

Catholic health and aged care networks

Catholic hospital networks and aged care operators have strict compliance requirements and large distributed workforces. Elcom supports WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility, integrates with identity management systems, and keeps data within Australian borders. St Vincent's Health is among the Catholic health networks that have built their digital infrastructure on Elcom.

Other faith communities and organisations

Elcom works with faith-based organisations across all traditions including Jewish community organisations, Islamic welfare bodies, Buddhist foundations, and multi-faith service providers. The platform is denomination-agnostic. If your organisation manages staff or volunteers across multiple sites, Elcom can be configured to suit your structure.

Connecting Your Community with a Unified Digital Platform

As a trusted technology partner, Elcom’s Digital Experience Platform empowers religious institutions with a scalable, user-friendly solution that integrates seamlessly with key systems, streamlining operations and enhancing engagement.
