How to turn on folder and article logging

The Corporate Compliance module provides you with the ability to keep a complete audit trail of a user's navigation through the site.

Once the module has been enabled, you will be able to turn logging on either at the site wide level (ie. log access to all folders and articles), or at the specific folder or article level (ie. you are only interested in auditing a few specific folders/articles).

To turn it on at the site wide level, take a look at the Global Site Settings function, specifically the Folder and Article logging section:

Folder and Article LoggingExpand | Collapse
    Folder and Article Logging:
Keep a log of all folders that a logged in user accesses
Keep a log of all articles that a logged in user accesses
Logging Time Difference* hours  (Current EST is 16 Oct 2008 12:14)
The time difference between where users will be accessing the site and Australia (EST)
Here you can specify whether to log folder and/or articles as well as a time difference if users access your site from other countries.

To turn logging on at the individual folder or article level (ie. NOT site wide), you need to mark which folders and articles you want to log. To do this make sure you check:

    •  For Folders - the "Log Access" checkbox in the Additional Options section of the folder edit page.
    • For Articles - the "Access" checkbox in the Audit trail section of the article attributes page

Note that if you are turning it on at the individual folder or article level then you wouldn't turn it on at the site wide level.

There are 2 reports that you can run to extract the logging information:

    1. Folders Accessed Report - this provides you with a summary or detailed report of access at the folder level
    2. Articles Accessed Report - this provides you with a summary or detailed report of access at the article level
It is important to note that the audit trail is ONLY to track the navigation of logged in users in the site. It will not track users who have not logged in. If you are merely after statistics on which pages have been hit in your site and not a specific user's access throughout the site then you can use Community Manager's webstats package to provide you with this information.
